Or there is the tradition in Bulgaria called Martenista, which involves tying a red and white string around anyone’s wrist to please the gods, thus make the winter finish soon.
Or there is a very similar tradition in Greece of weaving a red and white bracelet, which must be worn from the first of march until the end of the summer, this is called Martis and it is supposed to protect the wearer against the strong Greek sun.
In India the number of bracelets/bangles are representing a woman’s martial standing.
In he plural form bracelets are more often used in the underworld as a slang for handcuffs.
